Inside The Brain of a Homemaker

A little too much physical activity for me!

I ate 1/2 my breakfast with intentions of eating the rest after I worked out.

I woke up and went to a Pump Class with a different instructor. She about killed us! I lookeed around and several people - the majority - couldn't keep up with her, but we sitll kept trying. I was shaking on my way home.

I got home for about 30 minutes and grabbed some turkey slices and cheese. I have heard after lifting weights that you should eat protein after. So I ate more than I had planned and didn't eat the rest of my breakfast.

I then took my 6yo and 3yo to the city park to find our church float that they would be on. I couldn't find it. We were late since I worked out before hand so I put them in a safe place an ran (literally) around trying to find the float. It was 98 degrees. We found it. I dropped them off, walked quickly back to my car (I've probably gone 1/2 a mile by now) then parked at the end of the parade route and walked the parade route in reverse order until I found them and then I joined them and walked in the parade. I don't know how far I went, but it was about 1 and 1/2 hours of walking quickly in very hot weather. I was beat!

I had lunch and got the kids situated. I wanted to nap, but that didn't workout so after a mid-afternoon snack I took 6yo and 3yo to the pool. We swam and played for over two hours. (We do workbooks every afternoon and when they finish one then I take them both swimming. This was due to 6yo finishing one of his books.)

After swimming and feeding the kids I didn't feel so well. My body was beat. I was going on two nights of only 6 hours of sleep with no naps and such a busy day. I laid down and tried to watch a movie with hubby, but instead went to bed. Hubby took over and put everyone to bed. I was out like a light and slept so completely sound that it was like I was a rock.

I felt better this morning, still a little shaky and a little light headed, but I don't feel flu-like as I did last night. I think after I post this I will take another rest.

Personal opinion... the trainer was probably 'young' or 'inexperienced'. One who knew what she was doing would watch her class and 'know the over-the-top signs'. The hardest part, for me, of dealing with this type of trainer is knowing my body well enough to stop during the routine and make the adjustments that are right for me. It is so hard to do. One summer I decided to take a Tai Chi class from a fantastic instructor. I hate to admit it, but he told me later that he would push the class until I almost dropped (I was his 'least able student'). I have never been the bottom of any class I have ever taken, and my pride got in the way. Many weeks I couldn't get up from the toilet without using my arms to pull myself up by grabbing the sink. Silly, but true.

One other thing you might remember... a banana helps nutralize the lactic acid in your muscles after exercise. (Helps get rid of the 'burn' when you go too far.) You made a good decision to eat protein after you exercised. Remember, you have been getting rid of the sugar store in your blood stream/muscles. You are probably to the point where you body is switching over to burning 'fat' when you are in caloric deficite. Fatigue is a common symptom at this stage. Don't fight it. If your body reacts like mine does, it'll take about 2 to 3 days when you reach this stage to make the transition. I hate that 'fatigue' stage, but know it's natural. If you have a Tanita scale (one that measures body fat as well as weight), you might see some interesting shifts at this point.

I actually have another 'clue' when my body is making the shift... I CRAVE... in the worst way... 3 Muskateers candy bars (my 'sugar fix'). I can get to the point that all I can think about is getting that candy bar. If I am able to 'push through', then I KNOW I will get a good weight drop. If I don't, I usually maintain. I think we all have those signals from our bodies, if we only learn how to listen.

You are so dead on. She was young and inexperienced. Hopefully I learned my lesson and IF I go to her class again I will know to use my own clues from my body instead of letting her push me. The reason I really like classes is because they push you harder than you would go on your own, but there is a safety issue and this lady didn't watch her class very well. She was set on what she had already planned. I LOVED the Thai Chi story. That is classic!

I will remember the banana thing - I sure could have used that on Saturday! And now we can just hope that I am moving into the fat burning stage. I would love to lose 3 pounds by this Friday. Probably won't happen and I won't sabotage myself, but that way I could go shopping before we travel to Indiana for a family reunion. I need new clothes! But I will stick with the plan and only shop when I lose 5lbs. That is motivating for me.
